Oil & Gas
Recovering fresh water from produced water is a challenge, but it is a necessary one for the oil and gas industry
Water (re)use requirements are growing and wastewater disposal is under increasing environmental pressure
The challenges in the Oil and Gas industry
Within the Oil and Gas industry, the treatment of produced water is an ever-increasing task. A task that is becoming more and more urgent. This challenge is caused by stricter discharge regulations, or by water scarcity in certain regions of the world. Without further actions, this scarcity will only increase.
For the production of Oil and Gas, it is therefore no longer justified to withdraw drinkable water from aquifers. If we do continue with this, the consequences will be incalculable.
The Oil and Gas industry must drive decarbonation for cleaner resource production and preserve precious natural aquifer resources for human consumption. By using seemingly “useless” flare gas from the oilfield as a local energy source, the carbon footprint will not increase.
Oil & Gas
- Scarcity of fresh water
- Increasingly strict discharge regulations
- Need for a decreasing carbon footprint
The Dyvar® technology
A robust, reliable treatment system producing freshwater from produced water and waste waters
Our Dyvar® technology is a robust, reliable concentration and crystallization technology that concentrates brines and produced waters into clean water and hypersaline brines. In many cases, this clean water can be used for multiple applications and the brines can be applied as killing fluids. Our Dynamic Vapor Recovery Technology was a key-element of Aramco’s World Oil Award 2022 winning “A Sustainable Produced Water Management Technology for Circular Water Economy” project.
For example: in Saudi Arabia we have successfully applied our Dyvar® technology at scale in the oil field. In cooperation with our O&G partner NESR and Aramco, we treat hypersaline produced water (<100.000 mg/l TDS) to Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) level. By treating this water with our patented technology, we have reduced the salt concentration to less than 100mg/l TDS. As a result, this water can be used for industrial and agricultural purposes. The oversaturated brine (>350.000mg/l TDS) has also been demonstrated to formulate drilling fluids and achieve 100% circular economy.
Within the MENA region, we have established a partnership with National Energy Services Reunited Corp (NESR), the National Champion of the MENA region as oilfield services provider. Together with NESR, we are developing several Dyvar® based treatment plants that can convert between 25,000 to 100,000 bbl/d of produced water into freshwater and killing fluids.
Why you should choose Dyvar®:
- Ease of operation, 24/7, little operator attendance
- Capability of treating a wide range of brines with fluctuating TDS
- Zero Liquid Discharge on demand (pure water, hyper saline or salt crystals)
- All-in one unit, combining desalination, concentration and crystallization
- Modular and simple scalable building approach
- Non corrosive materials applied in the brine circuits
- Fully remote control
